Indore wins award for being cleanest city

It wins for its high ranking in a series of quality of living indices ranging from waste water management to solid waste management to reduced pollution.

Indore won the award for the Cleanest City at Safaigiri Award 2018. Receiving the award on behalf of Indore, the city's Mayor Malini Gaur said, that the entire city is cleaned thrice in one day.

"Once in the morning, once during the evening, once at night - the city is cleaned up thrice during the day. We have 12 machines which clean the entire city during the night," Malini Gaur said.

Indore has a high quality of living index. Indore has made an conscious effort to improve its quality of life, which is reflected in its number one rank in the Government of India Swachh Sarvekshan Ranking 2018.

It has ranked high on the Waste Water Management, Solid Waste Management and Reduced Pollution indices as well. It also got a high rating in a Top of Mind recall poll conducted by research agency MDRA among 760 respondents across nine cities.

"Citizen participation is one of the main reasons for our success. Citizens from every part of the city participated in ensuring that the city is clean and hygienic," Gaur said.

Malini Gaur also talked about the disposal of domestic waste. She said that Indore is in the process of making disposal of domestic waste easier. "We want households to dispose off or recycle their own waste by using the vegetable and fruit peels in their own garden," she said.
