World Cup 2019: England will be under tremendous pressure against Australia, says Sachin Tendulkar

It's almost time for one of the biggest battles of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Before the much-anticipated Ashes series, cricket's long-standing rivals England and Australia will be going head-to-head against each other in a crunch battle at the Home of Cricket, Lord's in London on Tuesday.

England was billed as the pre-tournament favorites. However, their campaign, it is safe to say, has derailed a bit. They were expected to bulldoze opponents with their batting might but two losses, one each to Pakistan and Sri Lanka has put their chances of even making the semi-final under threat.

Eoin Morgan's men are placed fourth in the 10-team World Cup 2019 points table with 8 points from 6 matches. However, the likes of Bangladesh (7 points from 7 matches), Sri Lanka (6 points from 6 matches) and Pakistan (5 points from 6 matches) are keeping the pressure on the hosts.

Speaking to India Today, batting great Sachin Tendulkar said England will be under considerable pressure when they take on arch-rivals at Lord's.

"They will be under tremendous pressure. you look at the way Aussies have played, the moment they realize it is the time to go for the kill they go all out. That will put pressure on England," Tendulkar said.

England is heading into the big-ticket clash on the back of a 20-run defeat over Sri Lanka in Leeds. The hosts have been missing their big-hitting opener Jason Roy and he has been ruled out of Tuesday's clash.

England is looking vulnerable but Tendulkar believes Eoin Morgan's men can put pressure on the Australian bowling attack "that lacks penetration and depth".

"Australia's bowling attack is not that great though. After [Mitchell] Starc and [Pat] Cummins the depth and penetration in their bowling are missing. That is where England can think of encashing," Tendulkar added.

Australia is sitting pretty at the 2nd spot with 10 points from 6 matches and win on Tuesday will help them move to the top of the points table.

Nonetheless, Australia head coach Justin Langer said his team will not underestimate England and maintained Eoin Morgan's men are still titled favorites.

"See how they've played for four years, they're the best team in the world. Look at their team ... Nothing has changed in a week," Langer said.

England will face India on June 30 and then New Zealand in their final group-stage match on July 3 after Tuesday's match vs Australia.
