Dhoni, though entrained his home crowd with some flashy glove work before hitting a six that got the whole Ranchi crowd on their feet.

In the 19th over, Dhoni hit Nathan Lyon for a maximum and that too in typical 'Mahi' way - as he danced down the pitch to meet the delivery from the off-spinner on the half-volley only to lift the ball into the jubilant stands over mid-wicket.

The shot forced Sunil Gavaskar on commentary say, "When Mahendra Singh Dhoni connects, it goes into the crowd. This is what they are waiting for. Look at the crowd, look at them. Their favourite son.. they have come to watch exactly this."

The joy and exuberance was short-lived though, as Dhoni was sent back to the pavilion to deafening silence. Dhoni was bowled by Adam Zampa on the first ball of the very next over.

Dhoni tried to hit the ball again in the same direction, possibly trying to use the 'helicopter shot' - but the full ball from the leg-spinner ricocheted back onto his stumps.

After Dhoni's dismissal, Team India skipper managed to get to his 41st ODI century but that wasn't enough to take India to victory.

At the post-match press conference, India batting coach Sanjay Bangar confirmed that Dhoni would be rested for the two remaining ODI (in Mohali and Delhi).

"We will have some changes in the last two games. Mahi will not be playing in the last two games. He will be taking rest," Bangar said.
