Karnataka captain Manish Pandey won the toss and decided to field. And his bowlers did not let him down against a strong Tamil Nadu batting line-up. In their home-ground, Karnataka bowled brilliantly to restrict Tamil Nadu to a modest 252 in 49.5 overs.

Abhimanyu Mithun, who has played 4 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, was the pick of the bowlers for Karnataka. He first dismissed Murali Vijay for a 2-ball duck in the first over of the innings before dismissing Vijay Shankar for 38 towards in the 46th over of the innings.

In the final over, Abhimanyu Mithun dismissed Shahrukh Khan, M Mohammed and Murugan Ashwin off successive deliveries to become the first Karnataka bowler to complete a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mithun is also the first bowler to achieve the feat in the final of the Vijay Hazare.

Abhinav Mukund (85) and Baba Aparajith (66) steered Tamil Nadu out of early trouble with a 124-run partnership for the third wicket but the rest of the batting line-up could not capitalise on a superb stand.

Vijay Shankar and Shahrukh Khan made useful contributions but the relentless pressure from Karanata's bowlers - Mithun. V Koushik and K Gowtham, made life difficult for Tamil Nadu.

In reply, Karnataka were dealt an early blow when Washington Sundar removed Devdutt Padikkal in the 5th over. However, India stars KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal joined forces and ensured Karnataka were never really in any danger of losing the final.
