In Short

  • Jio Postpaid Plus is Jio's idea of a premium postpaid service for its customers.
  • Under Postpaid Plus, Jio will offer subsidised roaming rates to its customers.
  • Jio promises seamless data and voice connectivity everywhere.

At this year's Reliance AGM event, Jio announced a lot of interesting products and services. The JioFiber suite of home entertainment solutions possibly gathered eyeballs unlike anything else Reliance announced that day. A couple of things didn't get as much as attention and one of them was Jio's Postpaid Plus service. This was the only update for Jio's telecom service and it is rather a big one.

No, this is not the first time Jio subscribers will get access to postpaid service. Jio has been offering a postpaid subscription to users but that offered limited options with only one plan. With Jio Postpaid Plus, Jio wants to offer value-added services to offer its customers for an overall better postpaid experience.

However, at the AGM event, Jio only revealed the basic details about the Postpaid Plus plan and a lot of it is still in the dark. And if you planning to subscribe to Postpaid Plus, you could be looking to learn about the basics, i.e. prices, plans, services and others.

Jio Postpaid Plus: What does it have in store for us

What is Jio Postpaid Plus

Jio Postpaid Plus is basically Jio's idea of offering a premium grade service to its customers. As the name suggests, this service will offer a postpaid subscription to its customers with some value-added benefits.

When is it going to be available

At the AGM event, Jio announced that the Postpaid Plus service will be available from September 5, the same date when Jio also rolls out the Jio Set Top Box and JioFiber services.

What are the plans and their individual prices

So far, Jio hasn't revealed anything on this front. At the AGM event, Jio didn't say anything about prices or the plans under the PostPaid Plus service. However, all the details will be available from September 5 on Jio's website.

What benefits will come under the Postpaid Plus

With the Postpaid Plus, Jio wants to offer a premium service to its customers. And that includes a couple of benefits for the customers, with the most notable ones being:

--Customers will get priority SIM card setup service at their home.

--Jio promises seamless data and voice connectivity everywhere. This means that Jio PostPaid Plus customers will get enhanced network coverage on their devices compared to regular customers.

--Similar to most premium postpaid services from other operators, Jio will also offer shared family plans. Jio highlighted data sharing among family members.

--Under Postpaid Plus, Jio will offer subsidised roaming rates to its customers. At the event, Jio said that roaming rates will be at a fraction of what its rivals will offer.

--Jio also said that Postpaid Plus subscribers will get preferential rates while upgrading phones. Therefore, if subscribers want to upgrade to a new phone at the desired rates, they will be able to do so. However, there's no detail on how this is going to work exactly.

--Lastly, the Postpaid Plus could be unifying all the bills under one. Jio says all your home solutions will be in your phone, which hints that your mobile bill, TV bill and a broadband bill will come under one bill as a package.

Is this the first time we see premium postpaid services in India

Jio is actually late to the party. It has been years since Airtel and Vodafone offer such services to their customers. Airtel offers similar services with a subscription to several third-party subscriptions. Vodafone RED is the equivalent for Vodafone customers with services like bill sharing with family members, data rollover, third-party subscriptions and more. It will only be interesting to see how Jio prices its Postpaid Plus in comparison to its rivals.
