BSNL has been testing its 4G network for a while in the Andhra Pradesh circle and now the service is live. A report from Telecom Talk suggests that BSNL has gone live with its 4G service with an infrastructure of 350 towers in the circle. This will position BSNL in the same arena as its rivals from the private sector. Do note that BSNL doesn't mention whether the network supports VoLTE like its rivals.

As for the plans, BSNL subscribers will able to use the 3G plans with the same data benefits. Previously, BSNL was also offering extra free data to its subscribers who were upgrading from a 3G SIM to a 4G SIM card.

With 4G, BSNL could be able to make up for all the financial losses it has suffered so far. BSNL has been going for cheaper plans to appeal to subscribers in tier 2 and tier 3 cities as well as rural areas. Most of these plans have been offering more data along with free unlimited calls to appeal to those subscribers from the private sector telecom players.

The results are also showing the benefits these plans have been doing. The Chief General Manager of BSNL told Telecom Talk that the operator has managed to gain 3.33 lakhs new subscribers by July 29. To maintain momentum, BSNL is facilitating the Internet traffic of 122.6TB per day. This data is only limited to the Andhra Pradesh circle for BSNL.

As of now, BSNL hasn't said anything about rolling out this service in other circles. The east coast regions generate a lot of revenue for BSNL but the company has also been testing its 4G services in many southern and western states.
