The crocodile died of natural causes and was carried to its funeral on a tractor, decorated with flowers and garlands.

A source from the village even praised the reptile for being friendly and said, "Even the kids of the village could swim around him and Gangaram had never harmed or attacked anyone. Gangaram was not a crocodile but a friend and a divine creature for us who was worshipped in this village."

Seems like the villagers were emotionally attached to the reptile and were heartbroken after his death.

In fact, the villagers now wish to build a statue of Gangaram near the pond to remember their friend, who got the village a new name Magarmachha vala gaaon’.

It may be bizarre, but it is a classic example of how humans and animals can coexist without harming each other.
