Valentina Elangbam, a 9-year-old girl from Manipur, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the Chief Minister's Green Manipur Mission. The young child was seen weeping profusely in a viral video after two trees that she had planted were cut down.

Kakching district's Valentina is a class 5 student of Amutombi Divine Life School in Hiyanglam Wabagai. She had planted two Gulmohar trees when she was in class 1 near the bank of a river in her locality. Valentina was inconsolably upset after the trees she had planted were cut down while the river bank was being cleaned, The Indian Express reports.

"I planted that tree and I love it so much. It pains me so much to see them cutting it down," Valentina said in the video that has been posted on Facebook by her uncle.

Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh took note of Valentina's fondness for plants and posted a tweet about her appointment:

Valentina's mother Shaya is overjoyed that her daughter has been honoured by the government.

"We are very grateful to the government for such an honour being given to my daughter. As a mother I feel very proud of my daughter. I have never imagined that my daughter would have such a deep passion. My family has committed that we will fully support her in every venture," Shaya said, The Indian Express reports.

Valentina, in fact, will also be involved with several government-sponsored tree plantation programmes that include World Environment Day and Van Mahotsava, as per the report. She will also be part of the government advertisements and campaigns in aid of maintaining the environment in Manipur.
