The novel coronavirus won't stop Indianapolis residents from getting to swim in pools this summer.

Indy Parks announced five pools will open, beginning June 13.

The pools will be open at 50% capacity, six days per week. They are:

  • Bethel Park, 2850 Bethel Ave.
  • Frederick Douglass Park, 2759 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave.
  • Perry Park, 451 E. Stop 11 Road
  • Riverside Park, 2420 E. Riverside Drive
  • Willard Park, 1901 E. Washington St.

Pools hours will be 10 a.m. to noon, 1:30-3:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.Tuesday through Sunday, closing for 1 1/2- to 2-hour intervals for cleaning.

The swimming pool at Perry Park is one of five opening for Indy Parks on June 13.

Each selected pool has separate locker rooms and restrooms designated for pool visitors only and offers plenty of deck space and pool water for social distancing, Indy Parks said.

There will be about 12 staff members working each day and wearing face coverings when out of the water.

“Summer is not canceled at Indy Parks and neither is our commitment to the city we all love and to the people we serve,” Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot said in a news release.

“As a team, we have a responsibility to explore every possibility for residents and their families to stay healthy and safe, to have access to free meals, and to enjoy recreational activities in our parks.”

While some pools are opening, all spray parks and pool spray features will remain closed until further notice.

In addition to opening pools, Indy Parks said it will announce plans for summer concerts with recommended guidelines in place.
