9 things for pet lovers to do around Indianapolis in August

Spending time with your pup doesn't mean just hanging out at home or at the dog park. And even cats should occasionally look beyond the scratching post for new adventures. 

Multiple events around Indianapolis are geared toward spending time with man's best friend or adding a new fur baby to the family.

Here are some August events to help fill your desire for furry animals:

Pet Portraits

Get a professional photo of your pet by Nicole Meisberger of Grace Images at Metazoa Brewing Company. Must be 21 or older. Click here for reservations. Walk-ins welcome. A portion of each session fee and 10% of each pint and growler will benefit Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO)

When: 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 21.

Address: 140 S. College Ave., Indianapolis.

Admission: Photo sessions are $35 and include a digital photo emailed via Dropbox.

The Amazing Acro-cats Pounce on Indianapolis

This two-hour show for cat lovers includes a meet-and-greet with the performers. Cat lovers can enjoy house cats rolling on balls, riding skateboards, jumping through hoops and more. The finale features the all-cat band Tuna and the Rock Cats with the exception of Cluck Norris, a chicken who plays tambourine.

When: 7 p.m. Aug. 22-23; 3 and 7 p.m. Aug. 24; and 1 and 5 p.m. Aug. 25.

Admission: Ranges from $23-$43. Ages 2 and under are free.

Ales for Adoptable Tails

The IndyHumane fundraiser offers beer, wine, cocktails and dogs at Indianapolis City Market. Enjoy raffles, contests for prizes, music, food, drinks and adoptable pets. Bring the whole family ... dogs included.

When: Noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 24.

Address: 222 E. Market St., Indianapolis.

Admission: General admission with two drink tickets is $20, VIP entry with three drink tickets and a swag bag is $30 and designated drivers and anyone under 21 are $5. Prices increase $5 day of the event. 

Doggie Dip

The Hendricks Regional Health YMCA is inviting small and large dogs to come for a swim before the pool's annual cleaning. Swim time is for dogs only. Aggressive dogs not permitted. Must be current on all vaccinations. Click here to register.

When: 2:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 25. Small dogs, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.; and large dogs, 3:45 to 4:45 p.m and 5 to 6 p.m.

Admission: $10 per dog. Humans are free.

Bark in the Park

Indianapolis Indians invite patrons to bring their dog and enjoy the game from the right field lawn at Victory Field. First 200 dogs receive a gift. Packages must be bought in advance by calling 317-269-2282. All dogs must have a ticket. One dog per person per game. Waiver required. Seating is limited.

When: 7:05 to 10:05 p.m. Aug. 27.

Address: 501 W. Maryland St., Indianapolis.

Admission: $22 for one dog and one human. $9 for each additional human in advance.

Paws for a Cause

This cash-only event at Mo & Johnny's benefits IndyHumane. Enjoy a night of craft beer, cocktails, games, live music, a silent auction, a doggy kissing booth and adoptable pets.

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30.

Address: 5380 N. College Ave., Indianapolis.

Admission: Free. Craft pints and cocktails are $5 each.

PAST EVENTS

Dog Days of Summer

This West Fork Whiskey Co. dog party features giveaways, live music, treats and more. IndyHumane will be visiting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

When: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 17.

Noblesville Cat Show

See pedigreed and non-pedigreed cats compete for best in show and watch a Cat Fanciers' Association Feline Agility Competition at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds. Get to know up to 42 cat breeds, enter a raffle and visit vendors selling specialized cat products.

When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17.

Address: 2003 Pleasant St., Noblesville.

Admission: $8 for adults, $6 for ages 55 and older and $5 for ages 4-12. Ages 3 and under are free. There is a $25 maximum per family.

Sip. Bark! Repeat.

Grab your pup and take the family out to Daniel's Vineyard for kids activities, music, food trucks, wine slushies, a silent auction and more. There will also be pets for adoption. VIP tickets receive complimentary hors d'oeuvres and beverages, and a private space with seating and music.

When: Noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 18.

Address: 9061 N. Carroll Road, McCordsville.

Admission: $10 in advance, $15 at the door. VIP is $40. Kids 5 and under are free.
