What you need to know about the Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival

Grab your kilt and bagpipes. The time has come to celebrate all things Scottish.

The Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival is hosting the 10th anniversary of the event Saturday.

There will be plenty of ways to experience Scotland in Indianapolis, from food and drink to entertainment and vendors.

Here's what you need to know about the Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival:

When is the Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival?

Festivities are from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 12.

All events will take place at German Park, 8600 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

How much are tickets?

Adult admission is $12 online through 11:59 p.m. Oct. 11 and increases to $15 at the gate. Seniors and students receive $10 discount admission at the gate, while ages 5-12 are $5. Children younger than five 5 are admitted free. 

Active military is $10 with a military ID at the gate. A family package is available for two adults and ages 5-12 for $35.

What are the games?

The 2019 Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games games will have 105 participants competing across seven men's classes and seven women's classes.

Each competitor is required to wear a kilt and must remain clothed at all times on the field. Awards are given to the top three contestants in each class.

Most classes will battle each other in nine events. They are Braemar and open stone, caber, heavy and light weight for distance, heavy and light hammer, sheaf and weight over bar. Novice groups will only compete in seven events for safety reasons.

A kids booth is open form 9 a.m to 6 p.m. Free activities include face painting, ink portrait quick sketches, wand workshop and an opportunity to be part of a kids knighting.
