What you need to know about the 2018 Circle of Lights on Monument Circle

Hoosiers will gather by the thousands on the day after Thanksgiving to join in one of Indianapolis' biggest and most beloved holiday traditions: the lighting of nearly 5,000 colorful lights adorning Monument Circle.

Friday, Nov. 23, will be the 56th year for the celebration officially known as Downtown Indy's Circle of Lights presented by IBEW No. 481.

There will be holiday music, headlined by 2014's winner of "The Voice" and  Indianapolis native Josh Kaufman.

Revelers will also see fireworks, toy soldiers, Santa Claus and lights. Lots of lights.

What time do the lights go on? 

To be precise, 4,784 colored LEDs strung up and down the Monument will all be lit at exactly 7:55 p.m.

The free festivities and entertainment runs from 6-8 p.m.

Who's performing? 

Josh Kaufman, winner of "The Voice" 2014 and the host of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s IPL Yuletide Celebration is the headliner. Also taking the stage is Indianapolis-based Expressenz, a "World of Dance" finalist. Five other acts also perform

What not to bring

 No chairs, tents, coolers, bicycles or animals, unless they are service animals.

Now featuring beer

This family-friendly event now features the Quaff On! Beer Garden on West Market Street, where those over 21 can enjoy a beer along with the entertainment.

What will the weather be? 

You can expect relatively warm weather, but with gusty winds and a chance of rain late. The National Weather Service says to expect a low of 45, with wind gusts as high as 21  mph.

While rain is likely tonight, it's not expected until after 10 p.m.
