Meijer shoppers in Indianapolis, you can now scan and pay for your groceries on your phone

Meijer has launched a new service aimed at giving customers another way to get their grocery shopping done.

The Michigan-based retailer on Wednesday announced the rollout of Shop & Scan, a program that allows customers to scan items through Meijer's mobile app as they're shopping.

Shop & Scan has been implemented in all of Meijer's Indianapolis stores, as well as locations in Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie and Anderson, the retailer said in a news release.

Meijer has launched Shop & Scan Technology in all of its Indianapolis stores.

Spokesperson Joe Hirschmugl told IndyStar that Shop & Scan is another addition to the store's shopping options. Customers can still use traditional checkouts, self-checkout and home delivery and pickup.

"You can shop how you want depending on how your day is going," he said.

How it works

In order to use Shop & Scan, you must have Meijer's mobile app (available on Android and Apple) and you also have to be an mPerks customer, according to the store.

Once you have the app, you can select the Shop & Scan service. As you're shopping throughout the store, you'll be able to scan and bag items. Once your shopping is completed, you can scan your phone at a self-checkout lane and pay.

Faster shopping

Meijer has launched Shop & Scan Technology in all of its Indianapolis stores.

The process is meant to "streamline" the grocery shopping experience, the retailer says.

“We’re all challenged by time and busy schedules, so Shop & Scan allows customers the opportunity to truly be in control of their shopping trip, from the moment they walk in our stores to the minute they walk out,” Maureen Mitchell, Meijer Regional Vice President, said in the news release.

The service launched in Michigan last year and is now available at other Meijer stores in Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin, the release said. It will continue rolling out to locations in other states this year.
