Indianapolis weather: More severe storms target Central Indiana after overnight onslaught

Another wet day in Central Indiana

After a round of overnight storms that ruined sleep and spooked family pets, officials warn that another round of severe storms may be on the way.

According to a hazardous weather outlook issued early Tuesday by the National Weather Service, Marion and the surrounding counties can expect to be hit by more storms Tuesday and Wednesday.

The weather service lists damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, heavy rain, flooding, hail and lightning as hazards associated with the storms.

"While thunderstorms are possible anytime today and tonight, the highest chances for severe storms will be mid afternoon into the evening," according to a National Weather Service statement. "Thunderstorms will continue to develop along and ahead of a cold front. The front will move through central Indiana tonight."

Tuesday's forecast says new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible. Temperatures should be mild with a daytime high of around 77 degrees, and a nighttime low of about 60 degrees.

The aforementioned cold front should lead to much cooler nighttime temperatures for the rest of the week. Wednesday's forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of showers before 7 a.m. before giving way to mostly sunny skies and a daytime high around 67 degrees.

Wednesday night should be clear, but temperatures are expected to plummet to the high 40s.

The weather is expected to calm Thursday and into the weekend, but there is another chance of severe thunderstorms early next week.
