Suitcase with human remains found in southeast Indianapolis

A suitcase containing human remains has been found in southeast Indianapolis.

At around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to a call about the remains at the 2500 block of Villa Avenue. Homicide investigators are looking further into the situation. 

According to IMPD officer Genae Cook, several people were walking along Bean Creek and came across a suitcase. One of the individuals opened the suitcase to find human remains, she said.

Cook confirmed that the remains do not belong to a baby, but did not have further age, gender or race details. She said the Marion County coroner's office is working to determine the identity of the human remains and will then notify the next of kin before releasing the victim's name. The manner of death is also unknown at this time.
