Thames and his co-defendant, Maurice Turentine, 34, were both charged with murder, after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers found Clark and Miller at a residence in the 1600 block of Villa Avenue on April 20, 2017.

Both victims had been shot: Clark was found on the main floor and Miller was found at the bottom of the basement stairs. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

An unidentified witness and a small child also were in the home when the men were shot, police said.

Minutes later, police were called to a nearby residence in the 2400 block of Brookside Avenue, where they found Turentine suffering from gunshot wounds that he said occurred during a drive-by shooting.

According to the release, the witness told authorities that a man known as "Reece" and Thames were at the Villa Avenue home at the time of the killings. The defendants were standing in the kitchen with Miller and Clark, when at some point, the witness said, Thames pulled out a gun and fired it at Miller.

A struggled over control of the gun ensued, and the witness fled the kitchen, grabbing a 4-year-old who also was in the home. They hid in a nearby bedroom until the shooting stopped.

Investigators tracked Thames to San Francisco, California, and he was eventually taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in El Paso, Texas, while using a fake name, according to the release. Records show Thames was booked into Marion County Jail in October 2017.

Turentine was arrested in Mooresville several weeks after the slayings. Both men were charged on May 5, 2017.

Turentine is expected to stand trial in February. IndyStar has reached out to his attorney for comment.
