Person injured after car struck by train on south side

This is a developing story.

A car was struck by a train Thursday evening on Indianapolis' south side.

The collision occurred at a railroad crossing near 828 E. Troy Ave. shortly after 8 p.m., according to Officer Aaron Hamer, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Emergency 911 scene.

The driver, who Hamer said was "awake and breathing" in an email Thursday night, was believed to have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
