Police union calls decision to scrap gunshot detection system 'short-sighted'

Indianapolis crime: 3 shot overnight, 1 fatally

One person was killed and two others were wounded in two Indianapolis shootings overnight, one on the south side and one Downtown.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded just after 3:10 a.m. Saturday to a call of shots fired in the 8100 block of Siear Terrace, near Southport. When officers arrived, they located a man in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Violent crime in Indianapolis is growing.  The Toll explores why.

The Marion County coroner's office will release the name of the victim once his family has been notified, IMPD said.

Two people were also shot hours earlier in the 1100 block of Brook Lane, near Crispus Attucks High School, IMPD said. One of the victims was shot in the hand, and the other is in stable condition.
