1 dead, 1 wounded southeast-side 'domestic situation,' police say

A man died and another was injured in a shooting on the southeast-side Sunday night in what police describe as a "domestic situation."

Officers found two men wounded by gunshots in the yard of a home in the 5300 block of Straw Hat Drive at shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release. The neighborhood is southeast of Emerson Avenue and Thompson Road in Franklin Township.

One man died at the scene; another was in critical condition at Eskenazi Hospital, police said.

Witnesses told officers that the two men broke into the home and fought with someone inside over a weapon. Those men were shot.

Officer Genae Cook said the shooting "appears to be a domestic situation."

Investigators think one of the men was the ex-husband of a woman who lives in the home, Fox59 reported.
