Gunshot killed man found in SUV on west side of Indianapolis, coroner says

Update Aug. 22, 2019: A man found in an SUV Tuesday night died from a gunshot wound, the Marion County coroner's office ruled.

Joseph Mefford, 26, was found about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in an SUV parked in an alley in the 1300 block of West Ray Street,near I-70 and Harding Street, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the coroner's office.

Mefford died of a gunshot to the head and neck, the coroner's office said.

Earlier: Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead with undisclosed trauma on the west side, police said.

Officers found the man's body about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in an SUV parked in an alley in the 1300 block of West Ray Street, near I-70 and Harding Street, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The Marion County coroner's office found trauma on the man's body, Officer Genae Cook said in a news release. The coroner identified the man as 

The death is being investigated as a homicide.Police did not disclose the nature of the trauma. Police did not release information about a possible suspect.
