Indianapolis police have arrested a man in connection to the early Sunday slaying of 18-year-old Dorian Murrell.

Tyler Newby, 29, was booked into the Marion County Jail on Sunday on a preliminary charge of murder, according to Marion County Jail records.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced Tuesday that Newby was arrested for his suspected role in the shooting reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of East Market and North Pennsylvania streets.

Murrell suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the incident and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released any information about the circumstances of the shooting. A police report for the incident does not indicate whether anyone else was injured.

Murrell was one of two people killed in the aftermath of Saturday night protests  that grew violent. Also slain was local business owner and former Indiana University football player Chris Beaty.

Beaty, 38, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting reported shortly before midnight on Saturday at Talbott and Vermont streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Beaty founded events promotion company Fresh Marketing in 2011. He was the past operating partner of Revel nightclub, general manager of  Dunaway's Palazzo Ossigeno and assistant general manager of 6 Lounge.

He graduated from Cathedral High School in 2000. Beaty played on the school's football team, which won 4A state championships in 1996, 1998 and 1999.

Indianapolis police confirmed Sunday morning that one arrest has been in connection to the fatal shootings, but officials did not say which shooting the suspect was involved in.

It remains unclear whether Newby is the suspect they were referring to Sunday morning.

IndyStar has reached out to the IMPD for more information.

Protests across the nation were sparked by the May 25 police-involved killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Floyd, a black man, died after a white officer pinned him to the ground under his knee. His arrest was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

Protesters in Indianapolis Friday and Saturday said they are also protesting the police-involved shooting death of 21-year-old Reed on May 6. Reed was fatally shot by an IMPD officer following a pursuit on the city's north side. Part of the pursuit and the shooting were streamed live on Facebook.

Police said Reed had been driving recklessly and they found a gun at the scene of his shooting that had been fired.
