Indianapolis traffic: Construction could slow major highways this weekend

Be courteous and patient behind the wheel this weekend, Hoosiers. Several construction projects could cause traffic on major highways in the Indianapolis area.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is scheduled to work on five Marion County projects simultaneously the weekend. The construction could impact traffic on I-465, I-70, I-65 and I-865 until Monday morning.

Here's what to expect:

  • The right three lanes of I-65 northbound will be closed from East Southport Road to I-465. The closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • All lanes of I-65 northbound will be closed between the I-70 split, along with all ramps in the area. The closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • All lanes of I-70 eastbound will be closed from I-465 (near the Indianapolis International Airport) to the south split, along with all ramps in the area. The closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The left two lanes of I-465 eastbound/southbound will be closed from 82nd Street to U.S. 36. The closure is expected to last from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The left two lanes of I-465 northbound/westbound will be closed from 56th Street to White River. The closure is expected to last from 7 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The left four lanes of I-465 northbound will be closed from West 46th Street to West 96th Street. The closure is expected to last from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The I-865 eastbound ramp to I-465 eastbound will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The left lane of I-465 westbound will be closed at the ramp to I-865. The closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The right two lanes of I-65 southbound will be closed from Lafayette Road to 38th Street. Ramps on and off Lafayette Road to I-65 southbound will be closed. This closure is expected to last from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

INDOT recommends planning extra time to drive to your destination this weekend and watching for slow traffic in construction zones.
