Man hit by IndyGo bus was first struck by hit-and-run driver, Indianapolis police say

A 60-year-old man who was struck by an IndyGo bus on the south side around 6 a.m. Friday was first struck by another vehicle that fled the scene, Indianapolis police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hit-and-run investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have learned that a silver or gray 2002-2009 GMC Envoy was traveling south on Madison Avenue when it struck the man in the left travel lane. That collision knocked the man into the roadway, IMPD said.

Moments after he was hit by the SUV, an IndyGo bus struck the man near the 7100 block of Madison Avenue. The Envoy fled east on South Street after the collision, IMPD said.

Police later found the vehicle unoccupied, IMPD said Saturday afternoon.

This gray or silver 2002-2009 GMC Envoy struck a pedestrian on the south side of Indianapolis Friday morning and fled, police say.

The Marion County coroner's office on Friday identified the deceased man as 60-year-old Bobby Watkins.

Anybody with information about the incident should call the IMPD Hit and Run Office at 317-327-6549, or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
