CVS opening 14 coronavirus test sites in Indianapolis area, 21 statewide

CVS Health will open 21 new coronavirus test sites across Indiana on Friday, including 14 in the Indianapolis area.

These new sites, established at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations, will utilize self-swab tests. They mark the next phase of a CVS plan to open 1,000 locations across the country by the end of May, with the goal of processing 1.5 million tests per month.

The opening of additional test sites in Indiana and nationwide will be announced by the end of the month, officials said.

The 21 test sites in Indiana are among nearly 350 locations across 14 states including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

“While the large-scale test sites we’ve been operating since early April have proven successful, this new approach allows us to utilize our presence in communities across the country and bring testing closer to home,” Larry J. Merlo, President and CEO of CVS Health, said in a statement. 

Self-swab tests will be available by appointment to individuals meeting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria and age guidelines.

Patients must register in advance at www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing to schedule an appointment.

Those being tested must stay in their cars. They will be given a test kit and instructions at a drive-thru pharmacy window.

A CVS Pharmacy team member will monitor the self-swab process to make sure it is done correctly. Officials said tests will be sent to an independent, third-party lab for processing with results available in approximately three days.

Testing will not take place inside any retail locations, officials said.
