Colts to honor Edwin Jackson during game against Texans

Colts player Edwin Jackson, killed in a traffic accident on Feb. 4, was remembered at his funeral service Monday as a person full of joy and commitment to others.

The Indianapolis Colts will honor former linebacker Edwin Jackson, who died in February, during the team's home game against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Players will wear an "EJ" helmet decal while coaches and staff will don an "EJ" lapel pin, and before the game the Colts will present Jackson's family with a $25,000 donation to the Edwin Jackson 53 Foundation.

There will also be a video tribute.

Jackson, 26, died when he and his Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe, 54, were hit and killed by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver. That driver, Manuel Orrego-Savala, 37, was sentenced last week to 16 years in state prison. Orrego-Savala pleaded guilty in July two counts of causing death of another person when operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 percent or more.

Before his death, Jackson spent three seasons, from 2015-17, with the Colts. While his spot during 2017 was on the team's injured reserve list, the 2016 season saw him play 16 games and record 61 tackles. He was on the practice squad as a rookie in 2015 after first signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern.
