NFL rosters 2019: Indiana players are on 26 teams

There are many ways to follow the NFL: Through your favorite team, fantasy league or high school or college allegiance. Entering Week 1, there were at least 62 players with Indiana high school or college connections on NFL rosters (including injured list and practice squads).

College breakdown: Notre Dame 29, Purdue 11, IU 10, Ball State 2, Marian and Indiana State 1 each.

High school breakdown: Cathedral 3, Bishop Chatard 2, and the following with 1 each: Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, Plainfield, South Bend Washington, Noblesville, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, Muncie Central, Fort Wayne Harding, Forest Park, Carroll (Carroll), Carroll (Allen), Terre Haute South, East Chicago Central and Warren Central. 

Two of these players were 2018 All-Pros: offensive linemen Quenton Nelson and Zack Martin. They and four others made the Pro Bowl: quarterback Drew Brees, defensive linemen Kawann Short, pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan and safety Harrison Smith.

Drew Brees (Purdue), Brandon Dillon (Carroll HS, Marian), Jordan Howard (IU) and Quenton Nelson (Notre Dame) are starting the 2019 season on NFL rosterse.

Here's where you can find these players to start 2019 (along with their Indiana connection and career highlights): 

Colts: Jack Doyle (Cathedral), Quenton Nelson (Notre Dame)

Doyle, a seventh-year tight end, made the Pro Bowl after the 2017 season.

Nelson established himself as a fierce interior lineman in his 2018 rookie season.

Texans: Nick Martin (Bishop Chatard/Notre Dame), Will Fuller (Notre Dame)

Martin is entering his third year as Houston's starting center.

Fuller is a fourth-year receiver with 13 career touchdowns.

Jaguars: James Onwualu (Notre Dame) 

Onwualu, a linebacker in his third season, previously played for the Chargers and 49ers.

Titans: Dennis Kelly (Purdue), Rodger Saffold (IU) 

Kelly, a tackle, is in his fourth season in Tennessee and seventh season overall.

Saffold, a tackle, played his first nine years for the Rams.

Browns: None

Steelers: Stephon Tuitt (Notre Dame)

Tuitt is in his sixth season as a Pittsburgh linebacker. He has 180 career tackles.

Bengals: Tyler Eifert (Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger/Notre Dame) 

Eifert, a 2015 Pro Bowl tight end for Cincinnati (13 touchdowns), is entering his seventh season. He has missed a lot of time the past three years due to injury. 

Willie Snead, who played at Ball State, has been with the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

Ravens: Miles Boykin (Notre Dame), James Hurst (Plainfield), Willie Snead (Ball State), Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame)

Boykin, a receiver, is a third-round rookie draft pick.

Hurst is in his sixth season on the Ravens' offensive line.

Snead has 211 career receptions and 8 touchdowns. He's in his second season in Baltimore after three in New Orleans.

Stanley is entering his fourth year as a starting offensive lineman.

Patriots: Ja'Whaun Bentley (Purdue), Ted Karras (Cathedral) 

Bentley, a linebacker, is entering his second season.

Karras is in his fourth year as an offensive lineman.

Dolphins: None

Jets: Matthias Farley (Notre Dame)

Farley joined the Jets after three years as a Colts safety.

Bills: None 

Chiefs: Gehrig Dieter (South Bend Washington/Injured list) 

Dieter caught 1 pass in the regular season and 1 in the playoffs for the Chiefs last season as a rookie.

Raiders: DeShone Kizer (Notre Dame) 

Kizer started 15 games as Cleveland's quarterback in 2017 and appeared in 3 games for the Packers last season.

Broncos: Theo Riddick (Notre Dame/Injured list) 

He played his first six seasons in Detroit, primarily as a receiver out of the backfield. He has 285 catches for 2,238 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Chargers: Dan Feeney (IU), Isaac Rochell (Notre Dame), Jerry Tillery (Notre Dame), Drue Tranquill (Notre Dame/Carroll (Allen))  

Feeney is entering his third season as a guard.

Rochell is a third-year defensive end who had 5 sacks last season.

Tillery, a defensive lineman, was a first-round draft choice.

Tranquill, a linebacker, was selected in the fourth round. 

Jaylon Smith played for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, where he was Indiana's Mr. Football, and Notre Dame.

Cowboys: Anthony Brown (Purdue), Brandon Knight (Noblesville/IU), Zack Martin (Bishop Chatard/Notre Dame), Jaylon Smith (Fort Wayne Bishop Luers/Notre Dame) 

Brown, a fourth-year cornerback, has 4 career interceptions and 149 tackles.

Knight earned a spot on the offensive line as an undrafted free agent.

Martin has been a perennial Pro Bowl performer, and a 3-time All-Pro, in five years on the O-line.

Smith, an Indiana Mr. Football, missed the 2016 season due to injury but has developed into a starting linebacker. He was in on 121 tackles last year. 

Eagles: Jordan Howard (IU), Nate Sudfeld (IU) 

Howard played his first three years in Chicago, rushing for 3,370 yards and 24 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

Sudfeld is a backup quarterback entering his third year. 

Ryan Kerrigan has been a mainstay in Washington after playing at Muncie Central and Purdue.

Redskins: Ryan Kerrigan (Muncie Central/Purdue), Wes Martin (IU), Terry McLaurin (Cathedral)  

Kerrigan has been a Pro Bowl defensive end in four of his eight seasons, including the past three. He has 84.5 career sacks and 25 forced fumbles.

Martin, a guard, was a fourth-round draft pick.

McLaurin, a receiver, was selected in the third round.

Giants: Cody Latimer (IU), Julian Love (Notre Dame), Rod Smith (Fort Wayne Harding/Injured list), Golden Tate (Notre Dame/suspended to start season)

Latimer is in his second season as a Giants receiver, and his sixth overall. 

Love, a cornerback, was taken in the fourth round of the draft.

Smith spent most of his previous four seasons as a Cowboys running back, with 6 career touchdowns.

Tate is a 10th-year receiver, his first with the Giants. He has 38 career touchdowns but will miss the first four games this season for violating rules on performance-enhancing substances.

Bears: Ben Braunecker (Forest Park), Alex Bars (Notre Dame/Practice squad), Sam Mustipher (Notre Dame/Practice squad) 

Braunecker is a fourth-year tight end with 7 career catches.

Bars and Mustipher are rookie offensive linemen.

Brandon Dillon, an alum of Carroll High School and Marian University, is on the Minnesota Vikings.

Vikings: Brandon Dillon (Carroll (Carroll)/Marian), Kyle Rudolph (Notre Dame), Harrison Smith (Notre Dame) 

Dillon is an undrafted free agent tight end. 

Rudolph is a ninth-year tight end with 386 career catches for 41 touchdowns and two Pro Bowl appearances.

Smith is an eighth-year safety who made the Pro Bowl the past four years and was an All-Pro in 2017. He has 586 career tackles.

Lions: David Blough (Purdue), Romeo Okwara (Notre Dame)

Blough, an undrafted quarterback, was in Cleveland's training camp before signing with Detroit.

Okwara is in his second season with Detroit, and fourth overall, as a defensive end. He started 14 games last season.

Packers: Robert Tonyan (Indiana State), Dexter Williams (Notre Dame), Jason Spriggs (IU/Injured list) 

Tonyan had 4 catches, 1 for a touchdown, as a rookie tight end last season. 

Williams, a running back, was selected in the sixth round of the draft.

Spriggs, a tackle, has played three years. 

Falcons: Ricardo Allen (Purdue), Austin Larkin (Purdue/Practice squad), Danny Etling (Terre Haute South/Practice squad) 

Allen is in his sixth year as an Atlanta cornerback with 7 career interceptions.

Larkin, a defensive end, and Etling, a quarterback, have each been in the league one year but have yet to see game action.

Panthers: J.J. Jansen (Notre Dame), Kawann Short (East Chicago Central/Purdue), Ian Thomas (IU), Kitt O'Brien (Ball State/Injured list), Cole Luke (Notre Dame/Practice squad) 

Jansen is in his 11th season as Carolina's long snapper.

Short is entering his seventh season as a defensive tackle. He made the Pro Bowl last season and has 282 career tackles, including 32.5 sacks.

Thomas, a tight end, had 36 receptions and 2 touchdowns as a rookie in 2018.

O'Brien, a guard, and Luke, a cornerback, have yet to see the field. 

Buccaneers: None

Drew Brees is an NFL record-setting quarterback.

Saints: Drew Brees (Purdue) 

Brees became the NFL career leader in passing yards last season, and enters the 2019 season with 74,473 yards. With 20 touchdowns this season, he passes Peyton Manning's career mark of 539. 

Rams: None 

Seahawks: C.J. Prosise (ND), Jordan Roos (Purdue/Practice squad) 

Prosise, a running back, is entering his fourth year. 

Roos, a guard, played for Seattle in 2017.

49ers: Tevin Coleman (IU), Sheldon Day (Warren Central/Notre Dame), Mike McGlinchey (Notre Dame), Raheem Mostert (Purdue) 

Coleman played his first four seasons in Atlanta, rushing for 2,340 yards and 18 touchdowns, with 11 receiving TDs.

Day, a defensive tackle, is in his fourth season overall, his second full season in San Francisco.

McGlinchey started at tackle his entire rookie season of 2018.

Mostert has been used primarily on kickoff returns and special teams over four years. He's entering his third full season in San Francisco.

Cardinals: None
