Indianapolis weather: More rain, lightning heading to central Indiana

Thunderstorms are heading to Central Indiana this afternoon, just two days after tornadoes touched down in Beech Grove and other parts of the state.

Residents should brace for more heavy rain, lightning and possible flash floods when this new line of storm clouds moves in, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

"With the approach of another upper level disturbance, the southern-half to the southern-two-thirds of the state could be seeing rain this afternoon to this evening," National Weather Service Meteorologist Marc Dahmer said.

The Indianapolis area is not likely to see any new severe weather or tornadoes with this storm, but Dahmer said residents are likely to see dangerous lightning and continued flooding.

Central Indiana remains under a flash flood warning.

Storm damage in Beech Grove, Indiana, where a strong storm and possible tornado came through on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

The chances of rain continue through Friday, Dahmer said, though there will be some dry times in between the storms.

Storms should arrive after 3 p.m. today, bringing up to a half-inch of rain. Today's high should reach about 79 degrees.
