Indianapolis weather: 'Strong thunderstorms' possible this weekend, and then — sunlight?

Sun, is that you?

Maybe. After a weekend with chances of strong storms, it looks like we'll finally get a few days of sunny skies and actual summer weather.

"Strong thunderstorms with heavy rain" are possible throughout Central Indiana late Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. These storms could bring gusty winds, hail and lightning.

Periodic threats of showers and thunderstorms will continue through Monday evening, NWS said. Heat indices could also reach the low- to mid-90s on Sunday.

But then: sunlight!

Tuesday through Thursday will be sunny and have high temperatures in the low- to mid-80s before a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms returns on Friday, NWS says. Even Friday, though, will be mostly sunny with a high near 88 degrees.

Indianapolis has seen 8 more inches of rain than normal at this point in 2019. The normal amount of rain from Jan. 1 to June 21, according to NWS data, is 20.35 inches. This year, Indianapolis has seen almost 29 inches of rain.

June, too, has been wetter than normal. The month that normally sees less than 3 inches of rain has seen 7.28 inches, NWS data says.
