Central Indiana residents are reminded to keep an extra eye on weather Wednesday as meteorologists track storms with potential to bring severe weather.

Jason Puma, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, said there's about a 55% chance that the metro area will see showers and thunderstorms tonight.

The system — charged by a cold front that's dropping out of the Illinois and Michigan area and pushing southward — could hit anywhere between 4 p.m. and midnight, Puma said.

There's also a slight risk of severe storms bringing lightning, hail and damaging winds. Puma said people should keep an eye out for a thunderstorm watch and adjust accordingly.

"So tonight's one of those nights when people need to pay a little more attention to weather," Puma said, adding that anyone outside if a watch or warning is issued should seek shelter.

Indianapolis expects to see its sixth night of protests Wednesday. The protests have drawn hundreds of people to Downtown Indianapolis.

The metro area could also see storms Thursday and Friday. Puma said temperatures will fall slightly Thursday and more so by Friday night when a second cold front moves in.
