Bluegrass and blues, hip-hop and a touch of history are all on tap around town this weekend.
‘Grey Gardens’
Thursday
"Grey Gardens" is more than 40 years old, but the film's influence continues to grow. Groundbreaking documentary makers Albert and David Maysles follow the day-to-day lives of mother and daughter “Big Edie” and “Little Edie,” relatives of Jackie O and once socialites, now eccentrics living in poverty on their derelict estate in the Hamptons. The Library of Congress selected the film for the National Film Registry for its cultural significance and it has been referenced in scenes in “Gilmore Girls,” songs by Rufus Wainwright and parodied on “Documentary Now.” See for yourself when the film screens at the Fargo Theatre, 314 Broadway, on Thursday, April 18, as part of the Classic Film Series. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5. “Little Edie” costumes are optional; http://fargotheatre.org/ .
