NDSU professor holds giving event to pay off $26K in Fargo student lunch debt

FARGO — A North Dakota State University professor is trying to wipe out Fargo school lunch debt with online donations and a benefit concert.

"Lunch Aid: Fargo Bands For School Kids" is a 30-day online donation campaign leading up to a live show in mid-September featuring 10 local bands.

This past school year, students in Fargo Public Schools incurred $26,000 in school lunch debt. Organizer Jason Boynton said the benefit will hopefully pay it off so kids don't have to. He also hopes it will raise awareness of families' needs in Fargo-Moorhead.

"I'm sure that (it) can't be easy for any family or any student to be in debt for nutrition," said Boynton, a professional musician and associate professor at NDSU. "Our goal is just to help take some of the burden off these students."

Donations are accepted on this website . The live music event is scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Sanctuary Events Center in downtown Fargo.
