FARGO — A Fargo man accused of barricading himself inside his apartment and attempting to set the building on fire faces two felony charges in connection to the incident.

Matthew Loren Griffin of Fargo has been charged with endangering by fire or explosion and preventing arrest, two Class C felonies, as well as disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.

Griffin caused a disturbance and threatened to set fire to his apartment building, 1618 East Gateway Circle South in Fargo, early Wednesday morning, May 27 , according to police.

After the responding officers saw flames in the window and smoke in the hallway, they forced their way into the unit and found Griffin had retreated to the bathroom, police said. Griffin attempted to break down the wall of the adjacent apartment before being apprehended.

If convicted, Griffin could face up to five years in prison, a fine of $10,000 or both. He is next expected to appear for in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, July 8.
