FARGO — Cass County Vector Control will be spraying for mosquitoes in Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo on Tuesday, July 28, weather permitting.

Tuesday’s spraying, targeted at adult mosquitoes, will use truck-mounted sprayers to spread ultra-low volume spray with the active ingredient permethrin.

Permethrin is not toxic to humans and pets and has been registered by the EPA since 1977. It is used in a number of household insect repellent products, including foggers, insect spray, tick and flea sprays, flea collars, termite treatments and treatments for body lice.

There were an average of 87.3 mosquitoes found Monday, July 27, in each of Cass County Vector Control’s 26 traps. That broke down to an average of 124.5 in north Fargo's seven traps, 71.5 in 11 south Fargo traps, 47.8 in the four West Fargo traps, and 105 in the four Moorhead traps.

Monday’s mosquito count is the highest in the metro since the 152 on June 25 the day after the first evening adulticiding event of the season. As recently as July 22, just after an aerial spray, there were 18.7 mosquitoes per trap.
