MOORHEAD — The number of arrests for drunken driving made in the greater Fargo area was low this Superbowl Sunday, according to local and regional law enforcement agencies.
West Fargo Police say they made four DUI arrests and Moorhead reported one. The North Dakota Highway Patrol said it didn't have any drunk driving arrests between Fargo and Grand Forks. Fargo Police didn't respond to requests for numbers.
Officials said a Sunday night snow storm may have been the reason for low numbers, though sometimes that can actually mean more drivers getting caught.
"They end up in a snow drift or they run off the road and then we come and they're intoxicated," said Moorhead Police Capt. Deric Swenson. "That's the primary reason why they probably end up getting in the ditch or getting stuck."
