A former pub near the ground of Peterborough United has been acquired and reopened as a youth club in a move backed by HSBC UK.

The Swiss Cottage has relaunched as Charlies Adult Youth Club (AYC) by Woodston couple Paul Richards and Marija Obradovic.

Obradovic is an ex-player and manager at the club’s ‘Posh Ladies’ team and former England international. She secured a commercial loan to buy the 200-year-old pub where she met partner Richards.

The pair also received a business loan to support the renovation work.

Obradovic, co-owner of Charlies AYC, said: "The pub means so much to us and our families, it’s a place we’ve been visiting and building memories at for so many years.

"If we weren’t able to purchase the pub, it would have been demolished and turned into flats, taking away people’s memories of the pub and the football club with it."
