The gym, which is part of the Aqua Vitae health club at the hotel, has undergone a complete refit, with larger free weights and training area as well as new decor and lighting design.

A full range of new cardio, resistance and functional training equipment from Technogym has also been installed.

Aqua Vitae manager Carole Crowe said: "Our plans to transform the gym have been in the making for a while, and everyone is delighted with the results.

"We are also thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Technogym, a brand synonymous with high quality and a global ambition to promote and facilitate wellness.

"The new Skill and Excite ranges, together with the MyWellness App will ensure that our members and guests can make the very most of their sessions at the gym."

Bernard Bloodworth, Matfen Hall Hotel’s general manager, added: "This major investment in our leisure facilities demonstrates our commitment to keeping Matfen Hall at the forefront of the region’s luxury health and wellbeing facilities.
