Operator of £22m Leicester hotel revealed

The operator of a new £22m hotel opposite Leicester Tigers' Welford Road stadium has been revealed.

Hotel Brooklyn will launch its second site in the summer of 2022 which will include 191 rooms, up from the originally planned 183.

The news comes after the operator opened its first hotel in Manchester in February, with work starting on the Leicester site the following month.

The interior has been designed by Oxfordshire-based Squid Inc.

Marshalls Commercial Property Development is currently constructing the five-storey hotel on the old 1.7-acre Granby Hall car park.

Working with Leicester-based national construction consultancy Pick Everard, the hotel will includes 35,520 sq ft of reception, lounge and dining areas, as well as a business centre, retail and lobby areas opening up onto an outdoor fan zone in front of the Holland & Barrett Stand.

The facility, which is expected to create 120 jobs, will also house a fitness suite, restaurant and fifth-floor 'sky bar' on top of an underground car park.

Planning permission was originally granted for the hotel by Leicester City Council in October 2019.

Oliver Redfern, lead interior designer of Squid Inc, said: "This hotel has a very unique neighbour in the form of Leicester Tigers rugby club and will most definitely add a little extra inspiration into the design.

"Architectural features, such as the striking central atrium stretching over five floors, will allow us to take the Brooklyn ethos–a palpable anti-slick, anti-corporate sensibility -to a whole new level.

"This hotel will be irresistibly familiar: a place where outsiders become insiders, and a destination of true hospitality."

Robin Sheppard, chairman of Bespoke Hotels, added: "We are thrilled to have secured this fantastic site in Leicester –right next door to the Welford Road Stadium.

"Being built by our trusted partners Marshall CDP, with whom we have worked several times before, we believe Hotel Brooklyn is a perfect fit for Leicester.

"It will bring a destination hotel into the heart of the city, attract a new audience of customers and, we hope, become a business of which the city will be truly proud."
