INVERNESS artists have launched a campaign to create a new gallery in the city centre.

The group is running a month-long crowdfunding appeal to raise £7,500 for the Circus Artspace, with the public asked to make donations of between £5 and £300.

As well as opening the gallery, the group wants to offer internships to new graduates giving them the opportunity to improve their professional practice, knowledge and skills through participating in events at the gallery.

If successful Circus Artspace will launch in June, with a programme of exhibitions, performance nights and film viewings.

Kirsten Body, one of the artists involved, said: "Currently there is no dedicated space for contemporary work in the city.

"We want to build a supportive community for visual artists and recent graduates as well as make contemporary art accessible to a broader Highland audience.

"Inverness is our home and we want to contribute to making it a vibrant, forward thinking and inclusive city."

The Circus Artspace collective behind the project formed last August, and is part of Creative Scotland's Crowdfunding Creativity mentoring programme.
