A CHARITY supporting those who have lost a baby or young child has been raising more funds for its latest venture.

Angel Wings Baby and Child Loss gathered donations at the Blacksmiths Pub in Culloden.

Although the charity has previously concentrated on providing refrigerated blankets and cots which allow families to spend more time saying goodbye to children after they have died, they now want to try and prevent more tragedies.

Following a similar event in Aviemore, the group were out with collection buckets and a raffle at the Culloden pub and have so far raised more than £1000 towards the provision of subsidised training in paediatric first aid.

Michaela Street founded Angel Wings six years ago. She said: “I think these courses are vital for families as they can learn how to save their own child’s life. As a granny myself, I think it’s important that someone in the family knows how to do this kind of first aid.”

The courses will provide participants with essential first aid skills appropriate for use on children, including dealing with choking, seizure or an allergic reaction.

The aim is to provide training at a more affordable £20 per person instead of the regular cost of £60.

A course is planned for the Chieftain Hotel in Inverness in September.

Mrs Street and her friend Liz Macrae are also boosting funds by taking part in four Kiltwalks across Scotland this year.
