GAELIC writer and Inverness Courier columnist Roddy Maclean launched his new novel at Inverness Town House recently.

Còig Duilleagan na Seamraig – The Five Leaves of the Shamrock – is set against the political and social upheavals in Britain a century ago, with the action moving between the Highlands, Ireland, London and Paris.

The tale tells how main character Donald Mackenzie becomes involved in the struggle for Irish independence and as a result sees his loyalty to the British Empire severely tested.

The novel won the Donald Meek Award for original works in Scottish Gaelic of any genre.

Inverness Town House, which housed the first cabinet meeting outside London, in 1921, is featured in the book.
