THE Highland Garden Fest returns to Inverness Botanic Gardens next month with more than 1500 people are expected to attend.

Running from 11am-4pm on June 9, festival-goers will be able to pick up tips on how to nurture plants and flowers, grow fruit and vegetables, and learn how to attract local wildlife.

They will also be able to browse garden stalls and meet local makers in the new craft polytunnel.

This year will also see the introduction of a garden talks programme where experts and enthusiasts will inspire all generations to get into the garden.

Festival director Cecilia Grigor said: “We’re so excited to be bringing the festival back to the Inverness Botanic Gardens for another year. Last year really showed there was a need in the Highland calendar for an event like this.

“It reminds people to take time away from the digitalised world we live in and to really enjoy the outdoors as a whole family.”

Botanic Gardens manager Ewan Mackintosh said: “The Highland Garden Festival was such a success in its first year and we can’t wait to welcome visitors again this year.”

Entry is free for children aged 12 and under and the festival will offer a range of games and activities to keep younger visitors entertained including bird box and bug hotel making sessions.

There will also be a competition for primary school youngsters to create a unique miniature garden in advance of the event, with two free tickets for all entrants and a £25 prize for the winners.
