The renovation of a Merkinch nature-lovers’ haven has been officially opened to the public.

After months of work, Friends of Merkinch Local Nature Reserve presented the improved facilities at Carnarc Point.

Although bad weather meant attendees were not able to enjoy a planned picnic and barbecue, things stayed dry enough to allow MP Drew Hendry and Inverness Deputy Provost Bet McAllister to cut the ribbon for the opening.

Project manager Caroline Snow said she was pleased with the launch.

“It all went really well,” she said.

“We managed to dodge the showers and we had a nice selection of local folk that came to see this beautiful place at its best.”

“It’s such a fabulous little spot and we really want locals to discover it and keep it in mind as a good place for a short walk or a lunch break.”

Improvements include a new pathway and picnic tables, more plants and improved accessibility for visitors using wheelchairs and buggies or visiting the site by bike.
