SEVEN Inverness schools will have their rolls capped in 2019-20 academic session.

The move was triggered by high demand for places at each school.

The primary schools affected by the cap are Holm, Lochardil, Kinmylies and Milton of Leys while three secondary schools – Charleston, Culloden and Millburn Academies – will also have the first year intake limited.

The local authority said it will do its best to accommodate all pupils in their preferred choice of school but warned that they would be subject to criteria.

Pupils must be within the Highland area and within the geographical catchment of the school concerned or else certified medical reasons or additional support needs best be served by a specific school are needed.

If pupils had siblings at a particular school that would also help their case while religious belief for denominational schools would also be a factor.

Educational courses unavailable at one school or pupils living within the catchment area of a secondary school that is not subject to capping might impact where a child can go as would proximity to home to school and road safety or ease of travel.
