INVERNESS Leisure has issued a public apology after wishing Dundee United "all the best for the rest of the season" days before tonight's vital play-offs second leg against Caley Thistle.

Caley Thistle waded into an online row yesterday after Inverness Leisure posted a message on Facebook about promotion rivals Dundee United.

The two sides go head-to-head tonight – with Caley Thistle needing to win to remain in contention for promotion to the Premiership.

Inverness Leisure’s post on Facebook came on Wednesday, the day after the two sides competed in the first leg, which Dundee United won 1-0.

Featuring a picture of staff and players outside Inverness Leisure, the post read: “Inverness Leisure welcomed Dundee United to the facility this morning as they took part in a recovery session following on from their play off match against ICTFC yesterday evening. We wish Dundee United all the best for the rest of the season.”

Yesterday Caley Thistle tweeted a link to the post, and wrote: “There is nothing like supporting your local team, and this is nothing like it! Come on Inverness tomorrow!”

This morning, Inverness Leisure has posted a picture of staff holding a flag and specially created good luck poster backing Caley Thistle.

The message alongside the image states: "Steven Clelland, facility manager and the team at Inverness Leisure wish Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC every bit of Highland luck for their match against Dundee United tonight.

"The team at Inverness Leisure is delighted to work closely with ICTFC throughout the year hosting their training and development sessions and always look forward to welcoming them to the facility.

"It is important that the local leisure centre works in partnership with the players, coaches and fans of the local club and this is certainly the case at Inverness Leisure – we would therefore apologise for a post earlier this week which may have caused upset for some of our users, this was not the intention.

"Steven and the staff are all keeping their fingers crossed that the team come home with the result everyone is hoping for. #comeoninverness"
