THE controversial riverside artworks planned for Inverness have been given the go-ahead.

Inverness councillors voted 15-7 in favour of continuing the £750,000 project.

Work on three elements of the scheme had been stalled during the summer after a group of rebel councillors pushed for it to be discussed at a special meeting held at Highland Council headquarters this afternoon.

The centrepiece of the work will be two curved walls either side of the River Ness – named My Ness – which has prompted much criticism after being approved by council officials in private.

The council halted work on My Ness plus the planned construction of a children's water feature in the Ness Islands and a viewing platform in Bank Street in order for councillors to consider whether to push ahead with the installations.
