VANDALS have again targeted a family-friendly woodland area of Inverness, raising fears that a wildfire could be set off, endangering nearby homes.

All of Scotland is on high wildfire alert because of the dry spell that should last until Friday.

Fires have been lit in the outdoor class room Dugless Wood, a fenced off part of Forestry and Land Scotland’s Culloden Wood where children can come with teachers or parents to learn about nature.

It is only yards from homes in Loch Lann Avenue.

Small barbecue areas were installed surrounded by log seats, but now there is evidence that considerably larger fires have been lit at night.

At least one of the carved wooden kids’ seats in the area has even been used as firewood.

In early April the Highland News highlighted the area had become a drink and drugs den, but now graffiti has been added, with trees and a log bench sprayed with “Drugs Den” and “Sesh”.
