Inverness Sheriff Court heard the man also carried out an unprovoked assault in the city centre

Jordan Macdonald (22) of Caledonian Road, Inverness smashed up the living room and kitchen of the property he shared with his partner, cutting his hand in the process, and then smearing his girlfriend's clothes with his blood.

Depute fiscal Robert Weir said the domestic offence took place on July 19 after Macdonald returned home in the early hours, intoxicated.

"He attempted to argue with his partner at around 4am, becoming aggressive," he said. "He was throwing things around in the living room and turned over a table, cutting his hand.

"Blood was splattered everywhere. He then smashed up the kitchen before returning to the living room, shouted and swore at his partner and punched holes in doors and walls.

"She went into the bedroom followed by Macdonald who started to trash the bedroom. He removed her clothes from where they were placed in the room and smeared them with his blood.

"She contacted her mother who informed the police. Officers arrived and found Macdonald in the kitchen where he became aggressive towards them."

Mr Weir said the assault had occurred on April 12 this year after Macdonald encountered his victim in the city centre.

"Without explanation, he was head-butted, punched and kicked to the head and body," he said. "He suffered reddening to his face and a bruised cheek."

Macdonald will be sentenced on September 12 after Sheriff Margaret Neilson called for a background report.

Macdonald admitted two charges of threatening behaviour and assault to injury and was remanded in custody until then.

Mr Weir said he was seeking a two-year non-harassment order to protect Macdonald's ex-partner.

This will be considered later.
