A third petition has been launched in a bid to find the Ironworks a new home in Inverness.

Highlands and Islands MSP David Stewart set up the online petition after meeting with the business's owner, Caroline Campbell.

Mr Stewart organised his campaign via the website change.org and will send the petition to Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, as well as Creative Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

He said: "Closure is on the cards for The Ironworks in Inverness unless a new home can be found to save this vital live music business.

"It has single-handedly supported the Highland music scene and letting it go without a fight is not an option. That's why I have promised to leave no stone unturned in getting the support The Ironworks needs to find a new venue from where it can continue to bring the big bands to Inverness and the Scottish Highlands."

So far it has attracted 40 signatures with a target of 100 supporters.

Two other petitions – launched on the change.org and 38 Degrees websites – have gathered more than 700 signatures between them.

London-based development firm Bricks Capital has submitted an initial planning application notice to Highland Council for a 162-bedroom Courtyard by Marriott hotel which, if approved, would see The Ironworks building demolished.

A full planning application is expected later this year with a decision to be made possibly by December.
