A SPECIAL event is being held at Balloch today thanks to the efforts of a mother whose toddler is in line for a stem cell transplant.

Steph Davidson is helping to organise a recruitment drive for blood cancer charity DKMS at the village hall.

Volunteers will set up stations to collect cheek swab samples from people who are willing to give hope to someone diagnosed with a blood cancer.

For some people a stem cell donation is their only chance.

Mrs Davidson’s daughter Adeline has been diagnosed with a rare form called myelodysplasia and a search for donors on the stem cell register has found 15 people have a tissue type that matches the two-year-old’s – so hopes are high a transplant can happen soon.

But Mrs Davidson said the experience made her realise how important stem cell donation is and she is determined to inspire people to go through the process of donating.

The 25-year-old, who lives in Alness, said: “I really hope loads of people will either turn up on Saturday or register as a donor online because it’s such a simple thing to do and it could save a future little Adeline. This is our way of giving something back.”

The recruitment drive is being held from 10am-5pm and will include a fundraising raffle.
