PROGRESS is being made towards plans for new facilities on Nairn Links in memory of local boy Hamish Hey.

Hamish (8) died from cancer in 2017.

The charity Team Hamish, which was set up by his parents, won funding for new facilities, such as a splash park.

But as the Links is common good land, the charity has been in talks with Highland Council, Nairn BID and Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise. before proceeding. Discussions were said to be “positive” this week.

"Extensive engagement has taken place in the town over the last 18 months run by both Team Hamish and the Links Development Plan Consultation by the council," said a spokesman for Team Hamish, NICE, Highland Council, and Nairn BID.

"This has given a clear vision of what people in Nairn would like to see improved within the Links.

"Based on the feedback from the community, work is now ongoing in order to identify the scope of key projects that can be progressed together in the short term.

"A project team is being formed of key stakeholders, including Team Hamish and council representatives.

"It is planned to come back to the community to seek views on the detailed options in the coming months and will be considered at a future meeting of the Nairnshire committee.

"The Nairn Links are an important and well-loved place within Nairn. These are exciting times to be able to take forward a new vision for the Nairn Links," they added.
